The Maine Technology Institute (MTI), in partnership with the Maine Department of Labor and Manufacturers Association of Maine, is seeking a consulting firm to conduct research on Maine’s advanced manufacturing sector workforce, with a focus on forest bioproducts, as part of the state’s Tech Hub designation. The end result will be a talent roadmap, produced by the end of 2024, that identifies future-facing priorities for manufacturing sector workforce development initiatives, encompassing both heritage and advanced manufacturing, and developed in alignment with related ongoing assessments.

Request For Proposals

Maine’s Forest Bioproducts Advanced Manufacturing Tech Hub, led by Maine Technology Institute (MTI), seeks proposals for a strategic assessment of Maine’s “Hard Tech” startup ecosystem. The assessment aims to identify investment opportunities and barriers, contributing to future accelerator designs, public investments, and access-to-capital programs. This project will help Maine become a competitive hub for advanced manufacturing and materials entrepreneurship, aligning with the 2023 Maine Innovation Economy Action Plan and the state’s climate and clean energy goals.

The selected partner will focus on:

  • Resource Mapping: Inventory existing resources for “Hard Tech” entrepreneurs.
  • Impacts: Document the effectiveness of Maine’s startup ecosystem over the past 10 years.
  • Benchmarking: Compare Maine’s resources and outcomes against peer ecosystems.

Proposals are due June 24, 2024 and must be submitted via email.
