Maine’s Economic Outlook Looks Promising

July 15, 2015 | President’s blog

It’s been said that “innovation is anything but business as usual.”

Over the past month, Maine showcased its impressive entrepreneurs in a series of exciting and inspiring events that demonstrated the outside-the-box innovations that are occurring all across our great state. From the truly impressive Maine Startup & Create Week to the Top Gun Final Showcase,LaunchPad and Greenlight Maine to the Maine Technology Institute’s own annual event, TechWalk, we were provided a glimpse into the inventive minds of Maine entrepreneurs and, in turn, a peek into Maine’s economic future . . . and the outlook is truly promising.

Undeniably, there is a renewed sense of enthusiasm and optimism in Maine’s innovation ecosystem and MTI is thrilled to play a prominent and meaningful role.

Building upon the entrepreneurial events of June, MTI is hosting an event tomorrow (July 16) in Portland to connect Maine entrepreneurs and businesses with federal agencies that have been directed to allocate approximately $2.5 billion each year to drive innovation, research, development and commercialization in the United States. The Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) programs are intended to foster “anything but business as usual” sort of thinking. MTI’s all-day educational event – – the 2015 SBIR/STTR Regional Summer Session – -will provide entrepreneurs, business owners, researchers, inventors, and resource providers with a primer on the SBIR/STTR funding programs, access to representatives from 6 of the federal agencies, and information about how to prepare a competitive proposal.

It is not too late to register and attend the event. For additional information, please visit www.mainetechnology.org

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Best,

Brian Whitney
