Maine’s annual three day “Startup Maine” Conference Convenes June 19th

Mainers are always thrilled when the month of June rolls around.  It’s the official start of summer in Vacationland and we all joyously unpack and unwrap our barbeque grills, lawnmowers, boats, motorcycles and convertibles to commence months of escapades and experiences in one of the most stunning places on earth.  After a challenging winter and what seemed like two-straight months of rainy spring weather, we are once again reminded, with the start of June, that we are so fortunate to call Maine our home.

June also brings with it another exciting annual occurrence, Startup MaineStartup Maine is a three day conference in Portland that brings together an amazing group of entrepreneurs, doers and creators to help share knowledge and ideas with one another to promote and celebrate Maine’s culture of innovation.

The Maine Technology Institute is proud to serve again as a presenting sponsor for the three day event and is particularly excited about this year’s keynote addresses and the many stimulating workshops that are slated throughout the conference.

The kickoff event, a collaboration with the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce and its “Kegs and Issues,” features Jennifer Pahlka, CEO of Code for America, and Hannah Pingree, the Director of Maine’s Office of Innovation and the Future. The two will focus their presentations on the connection between innovation, technology and government.  The event will take place at AURA, Portland’s exceptional entertainment venue on Center Street.

Following the kickoff event on the 19th, the next two days of the conference will be held at the Maine College of Art on Congress Street.

Other program highlights that intrigue me include workshops titled: “Been There, Done That: Avoid Mistakes by Listening to Fellow Entrepreneurs;” “How to Help People, Make Money, and Maybe even Save the Planet;” “Look Before You Leap;” “A Lean Approach to Branding;” and “10 Lessons from a Founder.”

Best,
