CHIMANI CLOSES NEW FINANCING ROUND RAISING $745K

— National Park Mobile App Developer Now Sets Sights on Growing Revenue & User Base —

PORTLAND, ME (October 21, 2015) – Chimani, the leading national park mobile app developer, announced today it has closed $745K of Series A financing. The financing was provided by Maine Venture Fund, Maine Technology Institute, Maine Angels and individual investors including Steve King (Facebook employee #12).

Steve King, along with Preston Junger, Director of Sales and Head of Brand Solutions at Yelp! Technology, have joined Chimani’s Board of Directors. Previously serving as advisors, both have provided insight with their experience helping startups rapidly scale.

Chimani’s free mobile apps include individual destination guides for 18 of the top U.S. national parks and a companion app, which features all 409 national park units. Each app includes curated-original content, high-resolution topographic maps, audio tours, trip planning guide and a variety of other tools to ensure users get the most out of their national park experience. Most importantly, the apps are designed to function without any Wi-Fi or cell connection.

The idea for Chimani was conceived by CEO & Co-Founder, Kerry Gallivan, while he was visiting Acadia National Park. Like most visitors to the parks, he was seeking information about trails and other points-of-interest nearby. Not only was there virtually no cell connection, the information available by the National Park Service was less than ideal for a mobile device when there was one.

“There are three reasons why I am actively involved in Chimani as a board member and as an investor” says Steve King. “Firstly, I studied natural resource studies and resource economics in college. Secondly, I enjoy technology-based startup companies and believe in attracting a new generation of national park enthusiasts. And finally, the team has shown me repeatedly that they have what it takes to get it done.”

Chimani officially closed its Series A round on September 30, 2015. The funds will allow the company to increase the core team, expand its sales and marketing efforts, increase the number of national park apps and add new tools that will make the app more useful and versatile for users.
