Maine Technology Institute (MTI) invites Maine scientists, researchers, life sciences companies and technology companies to Brunswick Landing on May 9 for a workshop with NIH officials representing the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) programs. The NIH SBIR/STTR program represents the largest source of early-stage technology financing in the US providing more than $2 billion each year to small business across the US to help entrepreneurs take their ideas from laboratory to market.
The May 9 workshop focuses on the National Institutes of Health mission and features guest speaker Dr. Matthew Portnoy, NIH SBIR/STTR Program Manager. Dr. Portnoy will discuss funding for up to $1.15 million. NIH is invited applications in its two upcoming 2012 application deadlines: August 5 and December 5.
“Hosting federal SBIR/STTR officials in Maine offers Maine’s R&D and technology community the opportunity to get up to-the-minute information on their federal funding programs and to develop important relationships,” said Betsy Biemann on announcing the May session. “Federal SBIR/STTR funding is targeted at the research and development that brings new and innovative products and services to market. It is an important resource Maine’s researchers and entrepreneurs and for all of us interested in growing good jobs in Maine. We encourage any and all Maine businesses who are interested in applying for NIH funding to attend and explore funding for their projects.”
The workshop will included an in-depth discussion of the NIH review process, a panel discussion featuring NIH SBIR/STTR awardees on application tips and an opportunity to meet with Dr. Portnoy to discuss your particular innovative technology and how it might fit with NIH’s mission and needs.
The May 9 SBIR/STTR Session will be held at the MTI offices at Brunswick Landing. Registration begins at 8:30am with presentations, workshops and meetings running until 4:30 pm.
