Under its governing statute, MTI is instructed to cooperate with the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD), Maine Manufacturers Extension Partnership (MMEP), the University of Maine (UME), and others to ensure a complementary system of support services – including incubators, business assistance, tech transfer, market research, patent research and similar services, is available to companies and research laboratories.
To help achieve this goal, MTI has provided funding for Maine Accelerates Growth to help ensure a complementary system of ecosystem support. MTI has also sponsored events such like Maine Start-up & Create Week and SCORE events. We have also entered into partner agreements with organizations like MMEP and the Maine Small Business Development Centers (SBDC).
MTI also partners with organizations to ensure that Maine innovators and small businesses get access to a complementary system of supports that will enable them to successfully start, sustain, and grow profitable enterprises.
In 2018, MTI chose a nationally recognized assessment tool, the Venture Investment Readiness & Awareness Levels or VIRAL® assessment, to help our clients identify their most urgent needs to maximize their chances of successfully commercializing their innovation or launching their program.
